Tel Faher

For 19 years from 1948 through 1967, Syria enjoyed topographical superiority over Israel and used her position from atop the Golan Heights to fire down on kibbutzim, agricultural fields, and settlements. With the outbreak of the Six- Day War in June 1967, the Syrians attacked ferociously with artillery, mortar & heavy machine-gun fire, but it was not until the fifth day of the war that Israeli Minister of Defense, Moshe Dayan, would sanction a ground assault to unseat the Syrians. The Golani Brigade attacked in the Northern sector fighting, literally, an uphill battle against a wellentrenched Syrian force. Here at Tel Faher, the Israelis won a decisive victory but at the loss of many of its finest and bravest soldiers. Their heroism is remembered at the place were they fell among the Syrian bunkers, trenches, barbed wire, and minefields.
